As a student coming to the Counseling Center, you are seen initially for a consultation to develop a treatment plan that fits your needs. A component of that treatment plan is often short-term individual counseling aimed at stabilizing and returning you to optimal functioning. We also offer referral services for students who might benefit from longer-term treatment at a provider in the community. Most people find that a limited number of sessions, matched to their needs, provides the focus and help they need with specific goals. You and your counselor will collaborate in making the best therapy plan for you.
Our staff members are mental health professionals. Staff members are usually trained as professional counselors or psychologists. The staff offers diversity in expertise, training, educational experiences, areas of interest, gender, and cultural background. Your counselor will provide support as you talk about your thoughts, express your feelings, develop solutions, and make changes.
This process is ultimately about making changes- changes that can help you to be the best version of yourself. If we have not seen you at the Counseling Center before, stop by to meet with a counselor. If you are not sure about counseling or if you have more questions don’t hesitate to come in and consult with us.
