Drop-In Spaces

The Counseling Center and Prevention Services are offering virtual drop-in spaces for the Fall 2020 semester.

Connect with other students, learn new coping strategies, and enhance your personal growth: Join us at one of our drop-in groups. Drop-in spaces explore wellness and mental health topics in a supportive environment. There’s no need to sign up—just show up!

For Fall 2020, this group will meet virtually via Zoom

Join us via Zoom with your own tea or snacks! This is a time to just show up, meet peers, learn about other cultures, relax, and support each other. Open to all international and domestic students.

The Nature Experience is a space for students that provides:

  • daily dose of time outside, that research has proven to be beneficial to overall well-being.
  • connect with others
  • a time to find be mindful and at peace.
  • the group will not meet in the event of rain or snow.

Self-Management And Recovery Training (SMART) is a mutual-support group that offers a friendly, non-judgmental space where students can explore how to make changes to problematic behaviors (to drugs or alcohol or to activities such as gambling or over-eating). Students can learn new ways to change their behaviors and lead fulfilling and balanced lives. SMART is a NON 12-STEP based group guided by scientifically validated methods that focuses on empowering individuals to change and to develop a more positive lifestyle.

Racial Trauma drop-in space for Black students at NC State. In this space students will explore racial and ethnic trauma and discuss its varying impact on Black students. Through guided dialogue and discussion, students will be empowered to speak openly about their experiences and offer support to one another. This space values connection, community and establishing healthy coping strategies to manage symptoms of racial and ethnic trauma.

Are you interested in reducing your use or quitting nicotine? Join us to connect with others going through the same process. This will be a private and and non-judgmental open space to talk about the effects and impact of nicotine through daily life.

Start the Convo is a relaxed space that is designed to help you build connections with other students. Join Mental Health Ambassadors in this peer led drop in space to focus on activities and discussions designed to foster a sense of community.

Flourish is a collaboration between Prevention Services and the Horticulture department that:

  • Facilitates student wellness connections.
  • Was developed from evidence-based research surrounding the benefits of horticulture therapy.
  • Promotes physical and mental wellness, social skills, and emotional growth.
  • Provides experiential and educational opportunities.

This drop-in space is intended to offer a safe space for students who identify as Asian, Pacific Islander, and/or South Asian American (APISAA) to connect and support others. Join us as we work on maintaining well-being throughout spring semester. Stress, isolation, and loneliness are common during this time of year. Talking with others can provide a sense of community and healing. Students can attend weekly or as often as their schedule allows.

In partnership with WellRec, students will explore alternative ways of having fun by diving deeper into the dimensions of wellness and learning new and different coping skills.

In partnership with the Women’s Center, Prevention Services presents The Collective, a space for Womxn of Color Community Connection. The purpose is to create a space for existing and entering womxn of color at NC State to form a community, break silos, and deepen relationships through facilitated dialogue centered on truth-telling and testimonios.

The Collective welcomes cis and trans womxn as well as femmes and GNC folx. Open for undergraduate and graduate students as well as campus-based professional womxn of color in an effort to develop an all-encompassing community of support for our students.

Pack Park provides students the opportunity to develop community among the members of the Wolfpack who have been affected by the loss of a loved one. Pack Park provides a place for students to find comfort, renewal, and honoring of the memory of their loved one through peer support, education, and healing-based programming.

This support space provides a virtual space for students in recovery from substance use disorders to connect. Attendees can expect the time to begin with a mindfulness exercise followed by a discussion focused on coping with recovery during the social isolation of COVID-19.

A seven-week drop-in series for students pursuing an engineering career. Sessions are topic-driven and skill-based, with a focus on resilience and networking support.
