Graduate Assistantships

Overview

Graduate assistants contribute to a variety of services offered by the NC State Counseling Center. They play a lead role in facilitating term withdrawal and course drop requests submitted by students who experienced an extenuating circumstance. In addition, graduate assistants conduct initial clinical evaluations (triage); facilitate psychoeducational workshops; co-lead therapy groups; provide individual therapy; and participate in campus outreach events. Graduate assistants are provisionally licensed or independently licensed mental health counselors in North Carolina and working under the supervision of a senior staff clinician. Graduate assistants work 20 hours per week.

All current graduate assistants are PhD students in the Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development (ELPHD) program at NC State, with a concentration in Counseling and Counselor Education. Graduate assistant recruitment occurs at the beginning of spring semester in collaboration with ELPHD faculty.
