Kelsey McKaplan
she/her/hers
Master's Level Training Coordinator
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor (LCMHCS)
Bio
Kelsey has been working as a therapist for over 13 years, and she’s been with the NC State University Counseling Center since 2021. While there are all kinds of fancy words to describe her theoretical orientation – existential, relational, interpersonal, psychodynamic – these words simply mean that she focuses on who you are, who you have been, and who you are becoming in relation to yourself and others around you. Kelsey works to create a non-judgmental, honest, steady and kind space in therapy. She believes in working quickly to relieve symptoms that are showing up in your life while also looking at the history and manifestation of those symptoms, to gain understanding about where they came from and what purpose they serve. Kelsey places a high value on supportive structures and kindness towards the self, so her bias will always to help you be a little less cruel to yourself, especially if you feel you don’t deserve it. She works from an intersectional, trauma-informed, holistic, and solution-focused lens, and she has additional certifications as a Holistic Sex Therapist and as a yoga teacher that inform her clinical work.
