The Graduate School Embedded Counseling

Explore personal, interpersonal, academic, and professional concerns that may be impacting your well-being with a counselor who knows the demands of being a graduate student

You can meet with the counselor at a location close to your classes — no need to go across campus to the Counseling Center!

Currently enrolled students and eligible postdocs in The Graduate School have access to these specialized counseling services through NC State’s Embedded Counseling program.

Meet Michael Tuma

Michael has a passion for being a therapist and has worked in a variety of therapeutic settings. Each setting has shown him that maintaining one’s mental health is equally important as maintaining one’s physical health. Michael has learned a variety of therapeutic techniques, in particular ACT and Solution Focused. However, his primary “technique” is being flexible with approach and understanding of a client’s circumstances. Michael believes in developing resources and relationships that work for the client’s goals beyond therapy. As well as the fulfillment of joining a client’s journey in finding their voice and identity throughout life’s transitions.
