What to Expect

Our workshops use a 3-sessions model (unless otherwise stated). Teaching workshops over the course of several sessions allows you time to learn the concepts with time to practice between sessions.

Many people feel a little anxious about participating in a workshop with other people; participation is encouraged but optional. The facilitators respect each participant’s right to share only what they are comfortable sharing and never require you to share sensitive or potentially embarrassing information about yourself.

To build skills, you need to regularly practice. This means there are exercises and skills you’re encouraged to practice and try outside of the workshop.

We just ask that you bring yourself and your workbook each week so you can continue to build your skillset to achieve what you set out to do and be your best self.

Additional Workshop Opportunities

Learn how to identify and help students who are most in need of mental health services. As part of the university’s suicide prevention initiative, Prevention Services holds frequent Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) trainings throughout the term.

Register online for these workshops.

Please register for workshops by noon on the day of the workshop. If you have any questions, call the Counseling Center at 919.515.2423 or email cou-outreach@ncsu.edu.

Do you have a specific issue you’d like to explore? We develop customized workshops on a variety of mental health and wellness topics for residence halls, academic classes, and campus and student organizations, including:

  • Stress management
  • Assisting students with mental health concerns
  • Healthy relationships
  • Assertiveness
  • Anger management
  • Rape/sexual assault awareness
  • Disordered eating
  • Self-esteem
  • Time management
  • Conflict resolution
  • Identity concerns
  • Counseling center services

We can tailor these and other topics to intended audiences’ needs. Please keep in mind, however, that we may need additional time to develop customized workshops for you. We also require at least 10 participants and at least three weeks’ advanced notice for programming.
